New Styles of Defense

April 19th, 2012

There are always going to be some new styles of defense making the rounds as the next big thing to watch out for. There is going to be a wrestling technique or a kickboxing style from some far off corner of the globe, and everyone will go running to it as if it is the next best thing since sliced bread came along. If you see sites like http://www.hertao.com/wingchun/ you see that some defensive techniques have longer and deeper roots, and are actually techniques more likely to garner the good results when they are put to the test.

No one wants to get into a fight, at least most people who are sane and balanced do not usually want to go around hitting anybody. But there are times that you do need to step it up, and when someone bows up on you, you need to stand right up to them and handle it so it does not get out of control. Worse still, is if you are a young guy, and someone is messing with one of your girl friends.  Taking care of yourself is always cool, but taking care of those you care about when things get a little sticky is definitely a cool thing to do, and your friends will always appreciate it if it happens to you.

Being able to defend yourself is different than going out and causing problems, so you don’t want to be the type of person that gets into issues simply to keep things hopping at all times.

No one can deny that to be able to compete in the mixed martial arts sport known as MMA, you need to be fit, healthy and down right mentally equipped to be able to handle what the sport has to offer.

The levels of fitness required to be able to compete in competitions for the sport is like no other sport on the planet, even the moments when you are grasping for breath and you are trying to hook onto your opponent, you are potentially open to a flurry of crushing blows designed to knock you out.

As the popularity of MMA fighting continues to grow thanks to the programming at the television stations and within the media, there has been a surge of new fitness classes that are offering you the chance to be able to get all of the fitness benefits that the sport has to offer, without all of the kicks, punches and blood that you could be more used to seeing.

Fitness instructors have realised that to be able to not only last the duration of one of the MMA fights but to be able to also deal with the potentially devastating blows that an opponent can deliver at anytime during a competitive fight, the participants have to have a huge amount of both mental and physical strength to continue to fight.

Knowing that many of you will not be looking to take up a hobby which is likely to see you taking a fist, forearm or kick to the face, they have taken out the contact element of the sport and have developed a training regime that you will have never seen before.

The massively strenuous workout will see your body pushed to the limit, speeding up all of the elements within your body that will enable fast weightloss and impressive fitness gains, all through a serious of resistance exercises as well as cardiovascular focused activities.

Remember that anyone can join classes like the MMA fitness ones that you could soon see making their way into the gym you are a member of, no matter what your body size, fitness or excess fat level, the aim is the same… Get fit and into shape.

There is no need to even take a change of clothes from that you normally workout in, so now need to look to head into the city to pick up some of the MMA shorts that you could have seen will walking passed the body fitness store, just go in your normal gear and enjoy the class.

Not only will you feel great after a couple of months, but you will look great if you can pair it up with a healthy, low calorie diet.

Get Your Body Into Extreme Fitness With Boxing

January 17th, 2012

With this being the new year and all of those resolutions still more than likely uncovered by you yet, it seems that you need a little bit of a wake-up call in order to make your first steps into becoming a new healthier, fitter you.

According to research surveys over recent years, the desire to get fit is one of the biggest resolutions that is made as the new year passes into motion but the chances of you actually getting up and putting those into action are slimmer than you could even be bothered to think about.

So you know that you need to get fit, you might even have the time to be able to head to the gym and hit the treadmill but you simply don’t have the desire or the belief that you will be able to turn your life, health and general wellbeing around. So here I am to give you my little tip that will make you into an animal in no time as long as you stick with it.

Boxing is one of the most demanding sports that you can imagine, the need to be able to retain lightening speed, balance and power while avoiding the potentially crushing blow being thrown at you by an opponent can leave you thinking that the sport is not right for you, but boxing is for everyone!

It has been widely revealed that some of the most intensive gym workouts amount to some close relation to a workout used within the training programmes of boxers from all over the world, simple things like skipping can be made into a fat burning exercise that will leave you gasping for air but feeling like the next Mohammed Ali.

Even if you are not looking to join the sport to compete, there is a lot that it can offer you towards your fitness goals, while still installing confidence and fitness into your everyday life and for those that have taken the steps to joining a boxing training programme have enjoyed it too.

I know that the boxing news media can make things look like you are about to get your face knocked through to the other side of your head, your teeth will shatter and hit the floor for you to gather them up and that you will come up against an opponent that is almost twice your body weight, but that is the professional game, not the exercise aspect of boxing.

I challenge you to step up to the mark, join a boxing class for a minimum of six weeks and I’m sure that at least 90% of you will continue to attend the classes throughout the year, if you are one of the 10% that quit, that’s either you have no heart or desire to change or you have walked into the training gym of Manny Pacquiao and didn’t tell him that you weren’t his new sparring partner!

Doctors Orders are Get to the Woods

September 5th, 2011

Alright you’ve been given the warning – if you don’t slow down you’re going to work your way into an early grave. Yes, success matters to you, but at what cost? You can’t keep going and going without pause. Studies show that true quality of life consists of a healthy balance between work and play. But it’s so easy to forget that as we all work our tails off to try and get ahead. You realise it’s important, though – to take time for yourself. So what sounds good to you? Getting out of the city? Yeah, that sounds right.

The thought of the English countryside takes you back to childhood  – and the summers your family spent together are something you remember incredibly fondly. If it’s thoughts of money that’s holding you back first have a look at some of the travel deals going around. Forest holidays in particular can help you slow the pace and unwind whilst fishing, sailing or just relaxing by the pool. If that all sounds a little too restful then there’s still tennis, horseback riding, ten-pin bowling, archery… your holiday can be filled with fun and excitement or simply a time to allow yourself to rest up.

So listen to the doctor, take a holiday. Ultimately it’s for the good of all because you, your family and friends will all benefit from you feeling good, happy and strong. Then you can step back into the fray, yet you’ll be back in the game feeling recharged and capable.

Boxer Fitness: How to Get the Boxer’s “Bod”

June 29th, 2011

One thing that makes a boxing fight interesting is the way the fighters look: wearing only boxing shorts, boots, and gloves, the toned muscles of the boxers are usually exposed for the entire world to see. Therefore, it is quite natural for women to gawk at those well-toned muscles and for men to feel a wee bit jealous as how the attention of females in the area are diverted to those strong-looking males in the ring. For guys out there who desire that fit and tough boxer’s bod, you don’t really need to become a professional fighter to gain that toned look. You just have to learn about the training that boxers undergo for their strength and endurance and integrate the exercise routine to your own workout. If you want to know how to get the boxer’s “bod”, here are 2 things you can do:

1.  Frequently watch boxing matches. A chameleon adapts the color of its surroundings by closely looking and studying its surroundings first. Therefore, if you want to get a boxer’s bod, you first have to determine what kind of boxer body you would like to have. The lithe body of a lightweight boxer is achieved differently compared to the bulky muscles of a heavyweight champ. After determining what type of boxer body you would like to have, the next thing to do is to figure out an exercise regimen to get that bod.

2. Work with a personal trainer. As mentioned, you don’t have to practice boxing to get a boxer’s look. However, you need to work with a fitness trainer to make sure that you are doing the right exercises to tone the right muscles. Doing things by yourself can mess up the look, making you awkwardly developed in some places and underdeveloped in others. A professional trainer would know the right set of exercises that you can do to get a boxer’s body, so stick closely with your trainer whenever you exercise.
